First and Last (Matthew 19:29-30)

I am a huge superhero fan, and this summer will premiere three superhero motion pictures at the box office. May starts it off with Thor. In June, my favorite hero (I'm ashamed to say I've read most of his comics) Green Lantern takes flight. Captain America wraps up the super summer in July. As you can imagine, I have planned on seeing all three.

Have you been to the theater lately? It's pretty expensive. Nine dollars for a ticket, and the food prices are outrageous. Times three. Easily forty bucks. Why would anyone shell out that kind of change for a movie? Well, if you want to see it FIRST, you have to go to the theater. If you wait until it comes out on DVD . . .  well . . . well . . . you just aren't cool. You DO want to be cool, don't you? Who can resist this simple and rational line of thinking?

Uh . . . what if . . . nah.

Okay, what if, hypothetically, I didn't see them first? While we're being hypothetical, what if you didn't see them first either? What? You didn't think I was going to be hypothetical all by myself, did you? If we hypothetically don't spend all that money on the movies, we could hypothetically use it to help people. Instead of just watching superheroes, we could BE superheroes. Maybe we could buy a goat or something. Then we could hypothetically rent the movies cheap and eat some real food. Of course, we would be the last to see them. Assuming anyone notices, would that be so bad?
